At the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS), the Center for Double Helix (CDH) was founded by Academician Zheng Quanshui as a pioneering platform for multidisciplinary innovation. Drawing on SIGS’s “6+1” core disciplines, CDH introduces a distinctive “Double Helix” model that seamlessly integrates scientific research with talent development. Its mission is twofold: to drive original scientific breakthroughs (0–1 innovation) and to cultivate world-class researchers with global vision and transformative capabilities.
Industry Collaboration and Impact: Strategically located in the Greater Bay Area—an international nexus for science and technological innovation—CDH capitalizes on Shenzhen’s energy and entrepreneurial spirit to build strong, applied research partnerships. Job Description
CDH/SIGS are inviting applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions, at the assistant, associate, or full professor level, to begin immediately or on a mutually agreed date thereafter.
The search is for candidates in interdisciplinary fields related to van der Waals (vdW)/2D materials, surfaces and interfaces, next-generation devices for microsystems, integration and assembly technology. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Large-area growth and synthesis of vdW/2D materials
- Electrons, photons, or phonons at surfaces and interfaces
- Strongly correlated physics in layered materials and interfaces
- Optics and optoelectronics
- Reconfigurable devices and chips
- Micro/nano-electromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS)
- Mechanically durable structures
- Precision instruments and equipment
- Micro/nano manipulation and integration
【Required Qualifications】
(required at time of application)
- Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Mechanical Engineering, Optics and optoelectronics, Chemistry, or a closely related field
- At least two years of relevant research experience after obtaining a doctoral degree.
- Strong record of publications that reflect research excellence
- Demonstrated or potential ability for high-quality teaching and mentorship
- A clear vision for impactful and original research
【Preferred Qualifications】
(including, but not limited to, the following areas)
- Research related to surface and interface sciences, with potential applications in advanced sensors, communication, memory, or computing devices
- Research focused on the control or modulation of interfacial properties in vdW homo- or heterojunctions.
- Projects involving advanced MEMS/NEMS devices
- Experience in growing large-area single-crystal vdW/2D materials
- Projects involving precision moving parts, mechanical components, and devices—such as miniature or high-performance bearings, sliding rails, and joints—where addressing interface-related challenges such as friction and wear is critical
